How We Support

Enabling Good Lives

Ali’s Home Healthcare operates in line with the principles of Enabling Good Lives (EGL), a new approach to supporting disabled people and their families.

Enabling Good Lives aims to give disabled people a higher level of control and self-determination in the use of their individualised funding, and their choice of support.

Through the principles of EGL, the disabled person has the authority to determine the type of care they would like, and how they would like to access it.

EGL empowers individuals to lead full, exciting lives, often providing respite alternatives and new pathways to independence.

Our commitment to the principles of EGL underpins the way we design and deliver our in-home healthcare services. We see all of our clients as valued individuals, capable and deserving of choosing the lives they want to lead; they are our customers, and the customer always comes first! Our in-home services are flexible and fully tailored to take each client’s individual preferences into account. Rather than prescribe care, we work with clients and their whanau to find out how we can best support that person to lead a fulfilling life.

Alis Home Healthcare Respite Alternative

It’s essential that our clients’ families know their loved ones are safe, treated with respect, and cared for to the highest standards. We communicate closely with our clients’ whanau and are always available for a call if families have questions, would like more information about care, or just want a quick chat.

We believe that through providing person-centred care, under the principles of Enabling Good Lives, everyone can share the important life patterns and transitions experienced in ‘mainstream’ life.

Building Relationships

We place high importance on finding the right support worker for each client, and carefully match our staff members with new clients where we feel there will be a good personality fit. After all, it’s much more enjoyable to receive home help from someone you can have a chat and a bit of a laugh with!

Once our clients have a support worker in place, this person very rarely changes. We know that when our clients welcome a health professional into their home, it’s vital that they feel comfortable with that person, and can build a strong relationship.

Our support workers are professional and thoroughly trained - and they’re also human beings with empathy, kindness and a sense of humour. Our team take the time to engage with the people they care for, getting to know them and building genuine connections. One of our clients has had the same support worker for almost 20 years!

Cultural Integrity

Ali’s Home Healthcare is a culturally aware provider. Our clients and their families come from a diverse range of cultures, and we embrace and respect the individual traditions, preferences, and cultural beliefs of each client.

Our staff are trained in cultural practices and will take the time to learn each client’s preferences - because all of our clients are individuals, and not everyone from the same cultural background has the same expectations. If we don’t know or understand, we will learn by listening to our clients’ needs.

We also ensure our workforce is representative of the communities that we’re supporting and celebrate diversity among our support staff. For clients who are non-native English speakers, wherever possible, we will provide a support worker who has a shared language.

We support the principles of Whanau Ora and are committed to championing Maori healthcare initiatives.
